Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra

The Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event held across a weekend in late August 2026. The format requires runners to complete a fixed circuit of 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour. Each circuit must be finished within 60 minutes; remaining time in the hour is typically used to rest and prepare for the next loop.

All participants continue to run hourly circuits until only one runner remains; that final runner is declared the winner. The event presents a way to extend distance incrementally: past participants have reached distance milestones including half marathons, marathons, 100 km and 100 mile distances. The current recorded best performance at this event is 30 laps.

Entry includes on-site camping for the event period, with camping availability noted across the weekend and into the stated end date. The event lists a minimum age of 18 and an entry fee of £95. Organisers provide accessibility provisions such as an accessible toilet and sanitary bins that are stoma friendly. A complimentary hair plaiting service is available on site with an optional donation suggested.

All money raised from entries is directed to supporting people living with bowel cancer and to funding related research and training. The event is organised by Bowel Cancer West. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
