Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra

The Devon and Cornwall Backyard Ultra is an endurance event following a specific hourly format. Participants run a loop of 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour. To stay in the event, runners must complete each circuit in less than 60 minutes. Any time remaining within the hour after finishing a lap is typically used for recovery before the next circuit begins.

The event continues until only one runner remains. This final participant must complete one solo lap to be declared the winner. The format is designed as a personal endurance challenge, allowing participants to reach various milestones such as half marathons, marathons, 100 km, or 100 miles. The current event record stands at 30 laps.

The following distance structure applies:

  • 4.167 miles per hour until only one runner remains.

Participants must be 18 years or older on the day of the event. The venue includes facilities such as accessible toilets and stoma-friendly sanitary bins. Entry fees include camping on-site from Friday through Sunday, or until the event concludes. A hair plaiting service is also provided on-site. All proceeds from the event are used by the organizing charity, Bowel Cancer West, to support those living with bowel cancer and to fund research and training.
