The Dartmoor Crossing / Great Escape

The event comprises two trail races that finish at Ivybridge Rugby Club. Both courses are fully marked and marshalled and run across open moorland and remote terrain on Dartmoor.

Distances:

  • 33.5 miles - The Crossing, described as a baby ultra.
  • 15.5 miles - The Great Escape, a long half-marathon covering the final section of The Crossing.

The Crossing crosses open moorland and two Dartmoor 600 m summits, visiting Belstone, Postbridge, and finishing at Ivybridge. The route includes 1,119 m of ascent and 1,516 m of descent. It provides two fully stocked aid stations and two remote water stops. The time limit for this race is 9.5 hours. A bespoke medal is awarded to all finishers and bespoke event t-shirts can be purchased via the SiEntries system. Coach transfer from Ivybridge to the start is available for £15. Minimum age is 20 years on race day.

The Great Escape starts from Princetown and follows the last 15.5 miles of The Crossing, crossing the head of the Erme Valley and traversing the Erme canyons and Abbots Way before the descent into Ivybridge. The course includes two water stops, a 4.5 hour time limit, a bespoke finisher medal, and t-shirts available via SiEntries. Minimum age is 17 years.

Trail runs nearby

A trail race of about 5 miles through Haldon Forest Park near Exeter, with water stations and finish provision and a separate hillclimb competition. Profits from the race will support Exeter homelessness charity St Petrock's.

A traditional fell race from Belstone Village to Cosdon Beacon and back, about 3.1 miles with roughly 300 m climb over rough open terrain. Junior races use shorter distances and under 14s race separately.

A weekend trail festival at Newnham Park featuring timed 12, 24 and 36 hour events on a 5 mile loop, plus a kids race. Solo, pair and team entries, camping, on-site food and free event photography.

A new 100 mile team relay in South Devon on 19 July 2026, split into 16 legs from 5 km to just under 16 km. Teams of 10 to 16 runners compete for awards while the event raises funds for two local charities.
