The Dartmoor Crossing / Great Escape

Ivybridge, United Kingdom • 1 Aug 2026

Dartmoor Trail Races

The Dartmoor Crossing and Great Escape are two trail running events that take place on the open moorland of Dartmoor. These races provide participants with the opportunity to navigate through wilderness areas, including high moor summits and river valleys. Both events conclude at the Ivybridge Rugby Club, which serves as the primary event centre.

Distance Options

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 33.5 miles - An ultra-distance course from Belstone to Ivybridge featuring 1,119m of ascent and 1,516m of descent.
  • 15.5 miles - A long half-marathon starting in Princetown that follows the final section of the longer route.

Course and Logistics

The routes traverse significant geographical features, including two 600m summits for the ultra-distance runners and the Erme Valley for both distances. Each course is fully marked and marshalled. For the 33.5-mile race, there are two fully stocked aid stations and two water stops, while the 15.5-mile route provides two water stops due to the remote nature of the terrain.

Participants have the option to book a coach transfer from the finish area in Ivybridge to the respective start locations in Belstone or Princetown. The event centre offers overnight camping for tents and camper vans on Friday and Saturday nights. All finishers receive a bespoke medal, and event t-shirts are available for separate purchase. The minimum age for the longer race is 20 years, while the shorter race is open to those 17 years and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
