Devil's Shadow Winter Trail Races take place on January 31, 2026, at Mendon Ponds Park in Honeoye Falls, NY. Race headquarters and the main aid station are at Hopkins Point Lodge. The event offers the following distances:

• 25k
• 5 mile

The race is a winter trail event that follows a loop around Devil's Bathtub. It was created in the tradition of Cast a Shadow but does not include a snowshoe option. In 2026 the event moved to a Saturday and a new 25k distance was added. Devil's Shadow is the third race in the Common Ground Winter Trail Series; participants who register for all series races receive special swag.

Course, logistics and policies

The course is an approximately 5.1 mile loop that starts and finishes at Hopkins Point Lodge. The route avoids larger hills and road crossings. The race-day course may change because of trail or weather conditions. Parking is available in the area around the lodge. Same-day registration is available.

Hopkins Lodge hosts the aid station and post-race food. Available items include hot apple cider, Skratch hydration, water, Coke, Gu Energy gels, salt potatoes, bone broth, candy, soup, salt bread, beer, and hot chocolate with a Skratch Recovery option. Headlamps are required when starting a new loop in low light. There is a single event price and no fees for participant transfers, distance switching, deferrals, or refunds. Refunds are available through January 23, 2026; deferrals through January 30, 2026. Special arrangements such as an early start or using a pacer can be requested.
