Event

Dartmoor Prison Break is an overnight distance event at HMP Dartmoor running from 30 to 31 May 2026. Participants aim to achieve the furthest straight-line distance from the start location on foot within a set time window. Routes must use only public rights of way. Wardens will be present during the event and may attempt to intercept participants. All participants wear a GPS tracker for the full duration so progress can be monitored by friends or family. Medals are given to all escapees.

Entry and rules

There are three timed categories:

  • 6hr Absconder
  • 12hr Delinquent
  • 24hr Felon

All categories require entrants to be 18 years or older. Entries open 1 October 2025 and close 15 May 2026. Entry fees are £45 for the 6hr, £55 for the 12hr, and £65 for the 24hr. At the time of listing there are 34 participants entered. A mandatory pre-event equipment check is required. Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, head torch with spare power, mobile phone, compass and maps or digital mapping, whistle, water, hat and gloves, spare base layer, emergency food and foil blanket, and a first aid kit.
