Dartmoor Prison Break

The Dartmoor Prison Break is a navigation and endurance event starting at HMP Dartmoor. Participants begin with a mass breakout and attempt to travel as far as possible on foot within a specific timeframe. The final distance is measured "as the crow flies" from the starting point.

Participants choose their own routes but must stay on public rights of way. During the event, wardens patrol the area to locate and intercept participants. All entrants are required to carry a GPS tracking device for the duration of the escape, allowing friends and family to monitor their progress remotely.

There are three distinct categories available for participants aged 18 and older:

  • 6hr Absconder
  • 12hr Delinquent
  • 24hr Felon

All escapees receive a medal upon completion. The event requires a mandatory equipment check before starting. Necessary gear includes waterproof clothing with taped seams, a head torch with spare batteries, a mobile phone, a compass, maps, a whistle, and a first aid kit. Participants must also carry emergency food, a foil blanket, and spare base layers. The event is open to individuals or pairs who wish to complete the challenge together.
