Culbin Forest 8-hour Challenge
The event is a fixed-time loop race at Culbin Forest. Participants run repeated trail laps of 4.366 miles each, with approximately 135 ft of ascent per lap. Runners aim to complete as many laps as possible within an eight hour time limit; a final lap must be started before the end of that limit and final laps have a later completion cutoff.
Timing is recorded by electronic wristbands (HuTags on velcro straps) that register start and finish times for each lap with a base timing monitor. Tags must remain uncovered and runners should avoid congregating at the start line after finishing a lap to ensure accurate readings. On race finish, participants check out at Basecamp, return timing chips, and receive a finisher bag.
Distances by lap count:
- 3 laps = Half Marathon
- 6 laps = Full Marathon
- 7 or more laps = Ultra Marathon
Basecamp offers kit storage under two 6 x 3 meter gazebos; the organiser does not accept liability for lost items. Spectators are welcome at Basecamp. Event parking is provided in the left-hand field at the entrance to Culbin Forest and will be marshaled on the event morning.
Mandatory kit guidance includes a minimum 1500 ml fluid plus refills, 60–90 g carbohydrates per hour of running, appropriate weather clothing, dry clothes for after the event, and a mobile phone. Volunteers are offered free entry for a future event or for the race they assist, with roles including start/finish staff, route marshalling, aid table support, registration, and car park support. Refunds are available up to two months before the event; transfers to another event are allowed up to one month before, and participant transfers up to one week before the event.
