Crozet Trails Crew 5K/10K Trail Run and Family Fun Run
The event is the Crozet Trails Crew's main fundraiser to support trails and greenways connecting Crozet and western Albemarle. It offers trail running on rustic, natural surfaces and a shorter family loop near park amenities.
The course uses Crozet Park festival grounds and pavilions for the start and finish. The main trail sections run east of the park and include roots, rocks, and ruts. The 10K route loops by Lickinghole basin and crosses Lickinghole Creek; runners may get their feet wet at that crossing. Organizers are fundraising for a 50 foot bridge at the creek.
The Family Fun Run follows a short extension of trail past the dog park, includes a roughly 0.75-mile section, and returns to the park. Family Fun Run registrants receive a shirt but are not timed and places are not awarded. Children under 7 may take part free when accompanied by a registered participant.
All race registrants receive a race T-shirt. Overall awards are given for male and female first, second, and third places; first place male and female also receive a bridge named in their honor. A post-race trails fest includes a pancake breakfast, live music, and beer; proceeds support the Crozet Trails Crew. Packet pick-up is offered the Thursday before the race and on race morning at Crozet Park Pavilion. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
