Crescent Hill 5K

Crescent Hill 5K | Tow Rope Trot & Nature Hike is organized by Pottawattamie Conservation at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock in Honey Creek, Iowa. The event offers a trail running option and a guided nature hike on dirt and gravel surfaces.

Distances:

  • 5K - 3.1 miles (trail run)
  • Nature Hike - 2.2 miles (Crescent Ridge Trail loop)

The 5K course travels from the ski lodge through wooded hillsides, around a fishing pond, and to the top of the ski hill before returning to the ski area base. The nature hike loops around the ski area and provides scenic prairie and hill views on moderate terrain.

A themed costume element is part of the event titled Christmas in July, with an award for best costume. Race awards include eco friendly medals for the top three male and female finishers in each age group and a best costume award. The top male and female overall receive a free skiing weekend for two. Age groups for the 5K are 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 plus.

Registration opens April 2 and closes June 19. Entry fees vary by date. Shirts can be added for $15 if ordered by July 1. Drink passes for ages 21 and older are $5 on site and include two drink tickets. The event supports fundraising for a terrain park tow rope and four season recreation development within the Hitchcock Nature Center and the Loess Hills.
