Crescent Hill 5K
Crescent Hill 5K is a midsummer trail event organized by Pottawattamie Conservation at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock in Honey Creek, Iowa. The event offers two distance options and takes place on dirt and gravel trails around the ski area.
- 5K (3.1 Miles)
- Nature Hike (2.2 Miles)
The 5K course runs from the Crescent Hill ski lodge through wooded hillsides, around a fishing pond, to the top of the ski hill, and back to the ski area base. The nature hike follows the Crescent Ridge Trail in a loop around the ski area with scenic views and moderate terrain.
The event has a Christmas in July theme with a costume contest. Eco friendly medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age group and for best costume. The top overall male and female finishers receive a free skiing weekend for two. Age groups for the 5K are 12 and under, 13-19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60 plus.
Registration opens April 2, 2026 and closes June 19, 2026. Entry fees are $35 through June 18, $40 from June 19 through July 17, and $45 on July 18 with payments accepted onsite by card only. Shirts can be added for $15 if ordered by July 1. Drink passes for ages 21 and older are available onsite for $5 and include two drink tickets for beer or seltzers; card only. Donations and shirt purchases support Crescent Hill at Hitchcock.
Proceeds will help fund a terrain park tow rope, estimated at $25,000, and support four season recreation development as part of the area master plan to preserve the Loess Hills and expand outdoor recreation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
