Loess Dirt Adventure Run : Glenwood Lake Park, Iowa

The Loess Dirt Adventure Run is an untimed trail event held at Glenwood Lake Park in Glenwood, Iowa on September 5, 2026. The course begins with nearly 2 miles of switchback trails, rolling hills and scenic overlooks through the Loess Hills.

Runners move across open grasslands and tree canopies before entering a more rugged section. The final 1.5 miles include dirt trails cut into the Loess Hills, densely wooded pathways, creek crossings, natural terrain obstacles, steep climbs and slippery descents. Organizers note possible bonus challenges on parts of the course.

Weather can strongly affect conditions. If rain occurs within three days of the event, the Loess soil may become slick and sticky, producing more difficult trail conditions. To support participants, organizers provide rope assists on difficult sections, safety personnel along the course and a finish-line spray station for cleaning off after the run.

The event is described as adventure-focused and untimed. Every finisher receives a medallion titled Conqueror of the Loess. The event is promoted as the first annual occurrence and has limited participant capacity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
