Cornwall's Backyard Ultra

Saint Eval, United Kingdom • 3 Oct 2026

Event overview

Cornwall's Backyard Ultra is an open-ended loop running event held between Bedruthan Steps and St. Eval, with the start and finish located in the Race HQ field near St Eval Go Karts. The event is scheduled to begin on Saturday 3th October 2026. Camping is available on site and only participants aged over 18 may run laps.

Course and format

Each lap is 4.167 miles (6.7056 km). The route runs mainly on Cornish country lanes and includes about half a mile on the Coast Path at Bedruthan Steps. The course is described as undulating rather than steep. The layout uses a small anti-clockwise lap and a larger clockwise lap that passes coastal views and finishes inside the Race HQ corral.

Rules and logistics

Loops last one hour and must be completed within that hour to count. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other competitors are recorded as DNF with distance covered noted. Competitors must remain on course during a loop except for restrooms. No personal aid is allowed during a loop; common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not allowed. A starting corral sized for the field is used and competitors must be in it at the bell.

A kit check occurs at registration. Essential items listed include at least 2 litres of water, nutrition, a mobile phone, a waterproof jacket, and high-visibility gear plus head torch and rear light for running in darkness. Organisers provide water, snacks, a timing tracker, on-site parking, non-electric camping, and race mementos. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
