Coombabah Trail Run
Coombabah Trail Run is a community trail running and walking event held in the Coombabah Lake Conservation Area on Lakelands Road, Coombabah, Queensland. The start and finish are at the reserve main entrance opposite Southport Airfield on Shelter Road (Koala Trail). The event is organised by local runners and residents who use the wetlands for running and biking.
The event offers these course options:
- 12.5 km course
- 5.5 km course
Each participant receives a race number/bib and a Coombabah Trail Run logoed event visor or bucket hat. At the finish, participants are given a small sweet item and a drink. A fully equipped paramedical team is on site during the race.
Prizes include lucky-draw items such as YETI custom drinkware and Specialized T-shirts with an embroidered event logo. From 2025 one entrant will be selected to attend the Papatowai Challenge in Otago, New Zealand; this prize includes event entries, accommodation for two people and transport for the weekend and is drawn from entries across the three yearly events.
The wetlands are part of the Southern Moreton Bay Marine Park and are registered under the Ramsar Convention. Organisers limit entries to keep numbers small and personal, and they plan to seek partnerships with local animal welfare organisations in future events.
