Climb It For Climate

Climb It For Climate is a mountain running and hiking event held at the Belleayre Resort in the Catskill Mountains. The event center is located at an elevation just under 3,500 feet, providing views of the Catskill High Peaks throughout the course. This event is part of the Mountain Madness Series, a collection of four mountain running events in the Northeast.

Participants can choose between two main distances:

  • 25K - This course covers approximately 16 miles and involves over 5,000 feet of climbing and descending on difficult terrain.
  • 8K - This route takes place on the ski slopes of Belleayre and is designed as an entry point for mountain running.

Both the 25K and 8K courses are open to both runners and hikers. The event is designated as a zero carbon race. The organizers subsidize the cost to offset emissions related to hosting the event and personal travel to the venue through a partnership with the Change Climate Project.

The event supports various community initiatives. Donations are collected for The Catskill Center via registration and raffles. Additionally, the event hosts a shoe drive where used or new footwear is collected for the Sneakers 4 Good program to benefit local non-profit partners. For the 25K distance, there are established time cut-offs at specific course intersections and aid stations to ensure participant safety.
