Squatchywaska Mountainfest - Ellenville, NY - April 24, 2027
Squatchywaska Mountainfest is a trail running event on the Shawangunk Ridge that offers two mountain-distance courses. The event starts and finishes at Berme Road Park in Ellenville, New York, and benefits Run Wild, Inc.
Distances:
- 25K (closer to 17 miles)
- 10 Miler
Both courses use a mix of technical singletrack and crushed-gravel carriage roads, with cliffs, glacially-polished ledges, pitch pines, huckleberry, and mountain laurel along the route. The 25K includes scrambling sections and about 2,500 ft of elevation gain; the 10 mile course has about 1,800 ft of elevation gain. Course markings include neon pink ribbons and large red directional arrows. There are two on-course aid stations stocked with water, Skratch, and snacks; these aid stations are not crew-accessible. Portable toilets including an ADA unit and private changing tents are available at the event base.
Field size is capped at 150 participants; the event reached capacity quickly in a previous year. Both distances have a six hour overall cutoff; the 25K and 10 mile courses have additional on-course cutoffs. All participants are required to carry a charged cell phone, a water bottle or hydration pack, at least 200 extra calories, a whistle, and a GPX of the course. The route is not recommended for all-terrain wheelchairs; it may be suitable for ambulatory adaptive athletes with strong technical experience.
