Squatchywaska Mountainfest
Squatchywaska Mountainfest is a trail event in Ellenville, New York on April 24, 2027. It offers two marked mountain courses that begin and end at Berme Road Park and use trails on the Shawangunk Ridge.
Distances:
- 25K (closer to 17 miles)
- 10 Miler
Both routes are technical singletrack with many rocks and roots and include more than 3 miles of crushed gravel carriage roads. The 25K has about 2,500 ft of elevation gain and the 10 Miler about 1,800 ft. The courses traverse pitch pine stands, huckleberry and mountain laurel, exposed conglomerate cliffs, and glacially polished ledges, with views that include a notable waterfall.
Event logistics and rules include:
- 6 hour finish cutoff for both events (pace guidance provided by organizers).
- Two on-course aid stations offering water, Skratch, and snacks; aid stations are not crew-accessible.
- Course marked with neon pink reflective ribbons and large red directional arrows.
- Portable toilets at the start/finish, including one ADA unit.
- Field capacity capped at 150 participants; past editions reached capacity quickly.
- No public transit options for timely arrival.
Required items to carry: charged cell phone, water bottle or hydration pack, at least 200 extra calories, whistle, and GPX of the course on a device. Participants must watch the event webinar about the fragile ridge ecosystem and must stay on trail to protect sensitive habitat. Pacers and accessibility accommodations are available under the event’s stated policies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
