Chopwell Woods Summer Trail Runs 2026

The Chopwell Woods Summer Trail Runs take place in a 360-hectare mixed woodland site managed by Forestry England. Located near Rowlands Gill on the fringe of Gateshead, this venue provides a natural setting for annual off-road running events. The course consists of a 5-mile lap, which participants can complete multiple times depending on their chosen distance.

Participants can select from three available distances:

  • 5 miles
  • 10 miles
  • 15 miles

The event is open to runners aged 15 and over. It is also a canicross-friendly competition, allowing one controlled dog per runner. Timing services are provided by Timing Up North, utilizing a live chip timing system to record participant results.

Upon reaching the finish line, all runners receive an event medal. The entry also includes a burger and a choice of beer or a soft drink, with alternative food options available. While free on-site parking is provided at the woods, space is limited, and the organizer encourages car sharing or walking to the venue when possible.
