Chip Chase

Chip Chase is a BS fell race held around the hills above Manchester with headquarters at the Cross Keys pub in Uppermill, Saddleworth. The planned course is approximately 10 km / 6.2 miles with about 400 m / 1312 ft of ascent. The route follows paths, is fully flagged, and has marshal points; there is one steep climb on the course.

On arrival, participants are asked to park on Church Road or Church Lane rather than in the pub car park. The race start is about a 10 minute walk from the pub. The organisers advise carrying a waterproof top with an attached hood and a fully charged mobile phone; other kit is unlikely to be required. If a runner retires or needs assistance they should tell a marshal and report back to headquarters, returning their timing device.

Entry is open to those aged 18 or older. Entries on the day are accepted. Entry fees listed include a reduced price for FRA members and a standard non member fee, and the entry covers a post-race serving of chips; refreshments such as beer are not included in the entry price. Prizes are awarded in men and women categories, age groups including V40 and five year categories, U23, and team rankings. Recorded course times are 45:24 for women in 2024 and 43:41 for men in 2023.
