Chasing the Sun

Chasing the Sun is a timed loop trail event at McDowell Mt Regional Park in Fort McDowell, AZ. Participants aim to complete as many laps as possible on a looped course listed at 4.1 miles per lap. Laps counted outside the allotted time limits do not count toward totals.

Race formats offer three time limits: 3 hours, 6 hours, or the full sun up to sun down window (10 hours and 42 minutes). Entrants may compete solo or as teams of two, three, or four. Duo, trio and quad teams receive a race belt to switch the race number between teammates.

Course segments are listed as:

  • Shallmo Wash to Pemberton, 1.8 miles
  • Pemberton to Scenic, 0.3 miles
  • Scenic to Cinch, 1.2 miles
  • Cinch to Escondido, 0.6 miles
  • Escondido to Finish, 0.2 miles

Race timing uses chips fixed to the reverse side of the race number, with live web results posted every five minutes. Racer amenities include a race long sleeve hoodie, a pancake brunch, and awards by category for solo and team divisions (male, female, coed where applicable). Parking and camping are available at the Four Peaks Staging Area on a first come, first served basis; park entry fees apply per day or per night.
