Wasdale Fell Race
The Wasdale Fell Race is a long mountain fell race organised by the Cumberland Fell Runners Association and forms part of the Lakeland Classics Trophy. The course distance is 34 km / 21.1 mi with approximately 2750 m / 9022 ft of ascent. The route crosses Illgill Head, the Screes, Whin Rigg, Greendale, Seatallan, Pillar, Great Gable, Esk Hause, Scafell Pike and Lingmell before returning to the finish at the field by the National Trust campsite in Wasdale.
Navigation and mountain experience are required. A flagged section links the valley bottom between Whin Rigg and Greendale; other sections can be indistinct in mist and require map, compass and route knowledge. Great Gable is the last checkpoint with a time limit of 4.5 hours from the start; other checkpoint closing times apply.
Full FRA kit is required and will be checked before race numbers are issued. Required items include waterproof top and bottoms (taped with hood), hat, gloves, map of the course area, compass, whistle and emergency food. An FRA tracker device will be provided at registration and carrying the tracker is mandatory for this event. All SPORTident Si-Cards are supplied and pre-logged by the organisers.
