Wasdale Fell Race

The Wasdale Fell Race is a long fell race organised by the Cumberland Fell Runners Association and forming part of the Lakeland Classics Trophy. The course is listed as 34 km / 21.1 mi with 2750 m / 9022 ft of ascent and requires navigation and strong mountain experience.

All competitors must carry full FRA kit before race numbers are issued. Required items include a waterproof top and bottoms (taped with hood), hat, gloves, map of the course area, compass, whistle and emergency food. The event is part of an FRA tracker device trial and carrying a provided tracker is mandatory; trackers are supplied at registration. SPORTident timing is used and SI cards are provided and pre-logged.

The route starts at the field east of the National Trust campsite at Wasdale and visits a sequence of checkpoints including Whin Rigg, Greendale Bridge, Seatallan, Pillar, Great Gable, Esk Hause shelter and Scafell Pike. Great Gable is the last checkpoint with a time limit of 4.5 hours. The route combines grassy runs, valley crossings on flagged sections and high ground that can require route finding in mist.

Entry information includes entry fees for FRA members, non-members and under 23s, and the organiser operates a waiting list if the event becomes full. Parking and registration are at the field east of the National Trust campsite; toilets are available in the National Trust car park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
