Lakeland Trails Ultra offers multiple waymarked and marshalled trail events around Ambleside in the Lake District. Distances on the programme include:

  • 100k Ultra with five mountain passes, about 10,500 ft ascent and 8 feed stations.
  • 55k Ultra with three mountain passes, about 7,000 ft ascent and 5 feed stations.
  • 23k trail run sharing final sections of the ultra routes.
  • 14k trail run finishing over Loughrigg.

The 100k and 55k courses have validated GPX files and the 100k includes GPS tracking as part of the entry. Chip timing and live results are used for the other events. Both the 100k and 55k have compulsory registration, kit checks and photographic ID is required to collect race numbers. A mandatory kit list for the ultra distances includes full waterproof jacket and trousers, a charged head torch (plus spare batteries or an extra torch for the 100k), a first aid kit, a long sleeve spare base layer, hat and gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone and emergency food and drink.

Feed stations supplement personal supplies and strict safety cut off times are operated. A small bag drop is available for 100k runners with specific size limits. The event village at Rothay Park provides food stalls, retail stands, commentary and entertainment, and professional medical cover and radio communications are provided on course. Run classic Lake District fell country at the Blake Fell Race on 31 January 2026, a testing 9.5 km course with 429 m of climb around The Leaps. Entries are limited to 120 so book early for this spirited winter challenge.

Challenge yourself on a classic Lake District fell race from Ambleside, tackling 14 km with 880 m of ascent and spectacular views. Entry is on the day for £2 and competitors must be 18 or over, with a strict cut off at Loughrigg summit.
