Lakeland Trails Ultra : Ambleside, Cumbria

The Lakeland Trails Ultra is a series of waymarked and marshalled trail runs based at Rothay Park, Ambleside, in the Lake District. Routes pass through mountain scenery and include sections shared by the longer ultra courses. The start/finish arena in Ambleside features entertainment, food stalls, trade stands and PA commentary.

Compulsory kit is required for the Ultra 100k and 55k and includes waterproof body cover (jacket and trousers with taped seams), head torch (with spare power for the 100k), a basic first aid kit, phone, emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, whistle, spare long-sleeved base layer, hat and gloves, and a minimum of 100 ml water plus an energy bar when crossing the finish. Ultra runners must present photographic ID to collect race numbers. 100k entrants must be 18 or over; 55k entrants must be 18 or over. The 14k requires entrants to be 17 or over.

Course details and navigation files: GPX files are available for the Ultra distances; the shorter 23k and 14k cross private land and their GPX files are not provided. Feed and water stations are provided on the ultra routes; the 23k has two feed stations (Grasmere 9 km, Langdale School 15 km) and the 14k has a water station at 8.5 km. The 55k includes three mountain passes and about 7,000 ft of ascent; the 100k adds two more passes and roughly 3,500 ft additional climbing. A five mile country race around Carnforth using field paths, trails and a canal towpath, with on-the-night entry and proceeds to a local youth charity. The route includes several stiles and returns via the Lundsfield quarry area.

Experience a traditional FRA category AS fell race in Grasmere featuring a 7.4 km course with 700 m of elevation. This 150 runner event offers a direct ascent to Seat Sandal and a flagged descent through the Cumbrian fells.

Take on the Borrowdale School Bash up Bessyboot in the Lake District: a short but fierce 5.2 km with 456 m of climb, offering stunning fell views and a real challenge. Entry on the day, with beer and a burger for every finisher.

A 10 km adventure run with cargo nets, walls, monkey bars and a water slide near the Lake District. The event is part of a village Festival of Sport and includes shorter runs and family activities.
