Event overview

The Lakeland Trails Ultra takes place in Ambleside on 11 July 2026. The event offers four distances:

  • 100k
  • 55k
  • 23k
  • 14k

All courses start and finish at Rothay Park and are fully waymarked and marshalled. The 55k route includes three mountain passes and about 7,000 ft of ascent. The 100k route adds two further passes and about 3,500 ft more climbing. The 23k and 14k share final sections of the ultra routes and finish with valley views. GPX files are available for the Ultra distances; GPX files for the 23k and 14k are not shared. Age limits apply: entrants for the 100k and 55k must be 18 or over, the 23k 18 or over, and the 14k 17 or over. Time limits are set for each event.

Safety, kit and services

Ultra 100k and 55k runners must complete a compulsory kit check. Required items include a full waterproof body cover (top and bottom), a head torch (with spare batteries or extra torch for the 100k), first aid items, a whistle, an emergency foil blanket or bivi bag, emergency food and drink and a charged mobile phone. Runners are advised to carry water; the event operates multiple feed and water stations - up to nine on the 100k and up to six on the 55k. The 100k includes an optional bag drop (maximum 20 l). The entry fee covers GPS tracking for the 100k, chip timing options, medical cover, radio communications, insurance and an event village with food, trade stalls and live commentary. Take on the Beyond the Lune Skyline Winter Ultra, a 65 km / 40 mile winter trail loop near Kirkby Lonsdale with 2000 m ascent and seven summits. Self navigate boggy footpaths, enjoy two warm feed stations and a hearty finish.

Beyond the Lune Winter Editions on 20 December offers 5, 10 and 20 km trail runs from Royal Barn in Kirkby Lonsdale with riverside sections and Lune Valley views. Longer routes need self navigation and the event is listed as full.

Take on a classic Lake District fell around Latrigg on a flagged 8 km / 5 miles course with 460 m of climb and stunning views. Starts and finishes at Fitz Park Pavilion, Keswick, and pre entry via SiEntries is required.

Take on Orrest Sun Up in Windermere on Sun 21 Dec 2025, a bracing one mile climb to Orrest Head with stunning Lake District views. Entry on the day from The Phoenix Centre is £5 with donations supporting local community charities.
