Lakeland Trails Ultra in Ambleside

The Lakeland Trails Ultra is a multi-distance trail event in the Lake District centred on Rothay Park, Ambleside. Routes use a mixture of mainly hard packed trails with occasional muddy sections and include waymarked and marshalled mountain passages. GPX files are available for the Ultra distances; the shorter routes cross private land so their GPX files are not shared.

Distances

  • 100k Ultra
  • 55k Ultra
  • 23k Trail run
  • 14k Trail run

The 55k route includes three mountain passes and about 7,000 ft of ascent with multiple feed stations. The 100k adds two further passes, roughly 3,500 ft extra climbing and additional feed stations. The 23k and 14k share final sections of the ultra routes and pass through scenic lake and valley terrain.

Safety and logistics for the Ultra races include compulsory kit checks, required photographic ID to collect race numbers, mandatory safety kit (waterproof jacket and trousers, charged headtorch with spare batteries for the 100k, first aid kit, spare long-sleeved base layer, hat and gloves, whistle, phone, emergency blanket and emergency food and drink), strict safety cut off times and optional GPS tracking for competitors. Runners must carry their own water or reusable cup as cups are not supplied at water stations.

The event village provides race commentary, food and trade stalls, professional course photography, baggage drop for 100k runners and prize categories for open and veteran classes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
