Course Overview
The Thames Path 100 is a continuous 100 mile (161 km) trail race that follows the Thames Path from London to Oxford. The point-to-point route starts at Richmond Old Town Hall in South West London and finishes at Queen's College Sports Ground in the centre of Oxford. The course follows the river against its flow and is characterized by a flat and fast profile with a total elevation gain of approximately 1,900 feet (560 m).
Terrain and Navigation
The terrain consists of 75% trail and 25% paved pathways, primarily on groomed paths and English riverside scenery. The course is marked with permanent National Trail marker posts displaying the acorn symbol, supplemented by pink branded ribbons and directional arrows. Runners are responsible for their own navigation and are encouraged to carry a map or use GPX data.
Requirements and Logistics
The event has a 30-hour time limit with intermediate cut-offs at aid stations. Participants must meet a qualification standard, having completed at least a 50-mile race within 15 hours during a specific qualifying window. Mandatory equipment is required, including:
- A mobile phone and 1-litre water capacity
- A waterproof jacket with sealed seams and a hood
- Primary and backup light sources (minimum 100 lumens each)
- Emergency base layer, hat, gloves, and a survival blanket
There are 13 aid stations providing hydration, gels, and various sweet and savoury snacks. Runners may utilize drop bags at mile 51, mile 71, and the finish line. Pacers are permitted to join runners on foot starting from the 51-mile mark at Henley.
Recognition
Finishers receive a commemorative buckle. Those completing the course in under 24 hours receive a specialized "One Day" buckle, while those finishing between 24 and 30 hours receive a finisher buckle.
