South Downs Way 100
The South Downs Way 100 is a 100 mile non‑stop foot race that follows the full length of the South Downs Way National Trail. The route runs along the chalk ridgeway from just outside Winchester to Eastbourne, passing rolling hills, ancient forts, villages and views north across the Weald and south to the coast and the Channel. The event is part of the GranCanaria World Trail Majors Series and is the 15th annual edition.
The course is 85% trail and 15% road, with approximately 12,700 ft (3,800 m) of ascent. The event is held under a UK Athletics permit (Permit Number 8432). The course is fully marked using National Trail acorn posts plus organiser ribbons and arrows, and there are 12 official aid stations stocked with a range of food and drinks. Full medical support is provided and there are strict cut offs at aid stations to ensure the overall 30 hour finish limit.
Entry information includes a general fee of £220, a field size of 600 starters and a qualification requirement of a prior 50 mile finish within 15 hours between 1 January 2020 and race day. Drop bags are collected at the start and delivered to Washington (mile 54), Housedean (mile 76) and the finish. Pacers are permitted from Kithurst Hill (mile 50) and one crew vehicle per runner is allowed at listed access points. A range of mandatory kit must be carried on course and time penalties apply for missing items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
