South Downs Way 100®

The South Downs Way 100 is a non stop 100 mile foot race that follows the full South Downs Way National Trail from just outside Winchester to Eastbourne. The route runs along the chalk ridgeway and passes rolling hills, ancient forts, villages and coastal views. The event is part of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors Series and is the 15th edition of the race.

The course has approximately 12,700 ft (3,800 m) of ascent and is around 85% trail and 15% road. The course is fully marked with National Trail acorn posts plus event ribbons and arrows. Twelve well stocked aid stations provide food and drink with options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free needs. Full medical support is provided on course and there is a 30 hour overall time limit with enforced cut offs at aid stations.

Logistics and rules include drop bag collection at designated aid stations, a maximum drop bag size, and mandatory kit requirements such as a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre fluid capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket with sealed seams, whistle, headtorch and backup light from Washington onwards, and a long sleeve emergency layer. Pacers are permitted from the mile 50 crew point and one crew vehicle per runner is allowed at specified access points. Finishers receive a 100 mile finisher buckle and category awards are presented.
