South Downs Way 100

The South Downs Way 100 is a 100 mile nonstop foot race following the South Downs Way National Trail. The route runs along the chalk ridgeway from the Matterley Bowl area near Winchester to the finish at Eastbourne Sports Club Athletics Track, covering approximately 100mi / 161 km with around 12,700 ft (3,800 m) of elevation.

The course is predominantly trail (85% trail, 15% road) and uses National Trail acorn markers plus event ribbons and arrows. The route is exposed in places with chalk and rocky sections that can be slippery when wet. The event operates a 30 hour finish cut off and provides 12 fully stocked aid stations, full medical support including static teams and rapid response vehicles, and live tracking and race coverage. Typical weather statistics listed are an average temperature of 15C, average rainfall 52 mm and average humidity 60%.

Race services and procedures include overnight camping at the start, drop bag collection points (Washington mile 54, Housedean mile 76 and the finish), allowance for pacers from Kithust Hill (mile 50) with bib requirements, and one crew vehicle per runner with a crew pass. Mandatory kit must be carried throughout the race and includes a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket with sealed seams, whistle, headtorch and backup light (minimum 100 lumens required from Washington onwards), a dry long sleeve top and a cup; a one hour time penalty applies for missing mandatory items. Trail runs nearby

A timed, lap format run along The Itchen Way in Winchester with a professionally measured, permitted course. Runners may complete multiple 2.62 mile laps up to ultra distance and receive a bespoke finisher's medal and aid station provisions..

Trail races from Queen Elizabeth Country Park across sections of the South Downs Way, offered at 12K, 25K and 50K, with marked routes, stocked aid stations, marshals and a serviced event village plus chip timing and finish medals.

A circular 5 mile trail run around Bembridge passing marshes, Centurions Copse and the coastal path, with trophies in veteran categories and a finisher medal for all.

A volunteer run 10 mile multi terrain race across the South Downs with mile markers, two water stations and precision chip timing. Finishers get a unique medal and there is a free kids fun run plus homemade cakes at the pavilion.
