The Kendal Winter League is a series of flagged fell and cross-country races organised by Helm Hill Runners. Races are open to all and do not require club membership. Course types range from hard cross-country to low-level fell terrain. Senior race distances are typically 2 - 5 miles; junior races are shorter and run on separate courses for different age groups. Organisers may shorten courses or impose cut-off times for safety.

The 2026 dates are: 04.01 Scout Scar; 11.01 Giggleswick; 18.01 Whitestones; 25.01 Elterwater; 01.02 no race; 08.02 Barbondale; 15.02 Sedbergh; 22.02 Birkrigg; 01.03 Cautley; 08.03 Cunswick; 15.03 Helm; 22.03 Arant Haw and prizegiving. Seven races from the listed eleven count for the senior series and five count for the junior series. Arant Haw does not count for series results.

Entry, fees and logistics

Entry is online only and there is no paper entry on the day; competitors must register in advance. The cost is £6 for seniors and £2 for juniors; cash is requested although a card system is sometimes available. All races require specific kit: seniors must carry full waterproof body cover, hat and gloves, and a whistle; juniors must wear a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves. Dogs are not permitted at winter league races. Parking is limited so car sharing is encouraged. Participants accept the hazards of fell running and run at their own risk; the organisers accept no liability for loss or damage.
