Canterbury City Orienteering Race

New in May 2026 and run in partnership with Saxons Orienteering, this city-centre orienteering event offers easy navigation races through Canterbury. The courses use the historic City Centre and pass Kings School Cathedral grounds, Westgate Gardens and St Augustine’s Abbey, with the race finish at Canterbury Christ Church University.

The courses are designed to be predominantly a running race rather than a navigational challenge. Entrants receive a map before the start and guidance on basic navigation. The race is an individual time trial; competitors follow a route past checkpoints shown on the map and record split times using a dibber, a finger mounted SportIdent data stick. The fastest overall time wins each course.

Event extras include refreshments, sports retailers, music and commentary. Results are provided via a live feed so times appear online after crossing the line. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female, plus 1st male and female VET40, 50 and 60. Venue facilities listed are full refreshments, baggage drop and toilets.

Advanced entries are via RaceSignup. Entry fees listed in advance are £14 early bird, £16 from 2 February and £18 from 11 May. Advanced entries are open until 11pm the Friday before the event, subject to map availability. The event is open to entrants aged 16 and over on 22/05/2026.
