Event Overview

The Bluebell 5 is an annual off-road running event organized by Pitsea Running Club in partnership with the Essex Wildlife Trust. Now in its 24th year, the race takes place on May 17, 2026, and serves as a fundraiser for Havens Hospices. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA) and conducted under UK Athletics rules.

The race features a single distance held on off-road terrain:

The route is situated within the Little Haven Nature Reserve in Thundersley, which spans 92 acres. Participants navigate a gently undulating course that passes through ancient woodland trails and hay meadows. The terrain is a mix of traditional trail and off-road paths, noted for the presence of spring bluebells during the event period.

Location and Facilities

The event is based at the Little Haven Nature Reserve on Daws Heath Road, near Rayleigh Weir and the A127. On-site facilities include toilets for participants. Limited parking is available at the venue. Before and after the race, refreshments and cakes are provided in the hall for attendees.

Participation Details

The race is open to participants aged 18 and over. Registration is available for both England Athletics affiliated club members and unaffiliated runners. Trail runs nearby

A 50km ultra along the River Medway from Rochester to Tonbridge, mostly on marked towpaths and trails and passing three medieval castles. The event includes three aid stations, live timing, bag transfer and a strict nine hour cut off.

A point to point 30 km trail along the River Medway from Little Fant Farm to Tonbridge, passing East Farleigh, Teston Country Park, Wateringbury and Yalding. The course is fully marked with checkpoints, GPS tracking, provisions and a final..

Timed 4.2 mile (6.7 km) laps run on the hour at Redbridge Cycling Centre on a 2 km tarmac loop. Competitors must finish each lap within the hour and the last runner standing is declared the winner.

An evening marathon that follows canals, waterfalls, vineyards, woodland and coastal saltmarshes, running from early evening into the night. Registration for the 2026 edition is closed.
