Three Castles 50 km Race

The Three Castles 50 km is an ultra marathon that follows the Medway Valley Walk from Rochester to Tonbridge. The route runs mainly on marked towpaths and trails alongside the River Medway and passes three medieval castles, several villages and towns including Aylesford, Maidstone, East Farleigh, Yalding and Tonbridge. The final section leads onto the Tonbridge athletics track for a finishing lap.

The course is described as largely flat and fully marked. Three official aid stations are located on course at approximately 13 km, 24 km and 37 km. Each checkpoint has a strict cut off time and provides food and drinks. Spectators are not permitted at two of the checkpoints and crewing is limited to designated spectator locations. The event includes live race timing and GPS tracking, medical support, bag transfer to the finish, and awards for first, second and third placed male and female runners. Finishers receive a medal if completed within the official time limit.

Entry rules require runners to be at least 20 years old on race day. Race regulations require visible bibs, staying on the marked course, no pacers, no dogs, no littering and completion on foot only. The event is cup less. Mandatory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone and drinks bottles with capacity to hold one litre of fluid, subject to a possible reduction to 500 ml. The race is permitted by the Trail Running Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
