Three Castles 50km Race

The Three Castles 50km is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon that follows the Medway Valley Walk from Rochester to Tonbridge. The route runs along riverside towpaths and public trails beside the River Medway, passing villages, historic locks, ancient bridges and three medieval castles before finishing with a full lap of the athletics track in Tonbridge. The course is described as predominantly flat and fully waymarked.

The event distance is 50 km and the race uses four fully stocked aid stations located at approximately 13 km, 24 km, 34 km and 44.5 km. Services included with entry are professional chip timing and live GPS tracking, bag transfer from start to finish, medical support, a finish village with refreshments and toilets, and a finisher's medal for runners who finish within the official cut-off. Awards are presented to the top three male and top three female finishers.

Mandatory requirements and controls include a strict overall 9 hour cut-off and additional mandatory cut-offs at checkpoint 3 (6 hours 15 minutes) and checkpoint 4 (8 hours 10 minutes). Minimum age to participate is 20 years. All runners must carry a mobile phone, a minimum 1 litre fluid capacity and a reusable cup; organisers also recommend items such as a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, sun cream and nutrition between checkpoints.

The event is permitted by the Trail Running Association. Participants should expect shared paths and occasional road crossings and follow event team and volunteer instructions at all times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
