Buttermere Sailbeck

Buttermere Sailbeck is a fell race that covers just over 9 miles and includes over 4000 ft of climbing. The route starts from Buttermere Village and follows a sequence of upland features: ascent onto Knott Rigg, a traverse of the Ard Crags ridgeline, descent into Rigg Beck, a steep climb to Causey Pike, then a ridge run across Scar Crags to Sail and Crag Hill. The return route descends over Whiteless Pike back into Buttermere.

The course contains steep rocky climbs and descents and some short sections with steep drops to the sides of lofty ridges. Organisers state that a pre-race reconnaissance is worthwhile and that the event should only be entered by those competent to complete the course safely. Limited public toilets are available in the village.

Practical details provided by the organiser include a designated race parking field accessed to the right hand side of Buttermere Court Hotel, a parking charge of £5 per car payable in cash, and a request to car share or use public transport or a bike. All runners must park in the event field rather than in the village. Team entries are allowed for men (teams of 4) and women (teams of 3). Entry fees listed are GBP 15 for FRA members and GBP 20 for non members. Entries open 14 May 2026 and close 12 June 2026. Event organiser is Keswick Athletic Club.
