Bust the Banks Half Marathon

The Bust the Banks Half Marathon is a trail race held as part of Dominion Energy Riverrock along the banks of the James River in Richmond. The course covers approximately 13.1 miles and uses urban singletrack and established trails that run beside river rapids and through wooded sections.

The route begins at the Dominion Energy Flat Lot and follows the Canal Walk, crosses the Mayo Bridge, travels along the Manchester Floodwall, and continues into the Buttermilk Trail. Runners follow the Reedy Creek Trail through Forest Hill, cross the Boulevard Bridge, and run the North Bank Trail before a final downhill to the finish. Trail surfaces include rocks, roots, and narrow singletrack; participants should expect tree limbs, bank climbs, and variable footing.

Entries are chip timed. The entry fee structure varies by date and includes a finisher t-shirt, a chip timed bib, and a drink ticket valid during festival hours. An income based rate of $25 is offered for eligible participants. Entries are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable.

Logistics and safety notes: participants must be at least 12 years old; children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult. The event is cup-less so runners must carry their own hydration. There is a 3.5 hour course time limit. Wave starts are used and awards are given to the top three overall finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
