James River Scramble (10kish) : event description
The James River Scramble is a trail-focused running event covering an approximate 10 km course. The route emphasizes trail over pavement and may include roots, gravel, rough terrain, and low-hanging branches. The course starts on the south side of the river and finishes on the north side in the Dominion Energy Flat Lot. Course maps are approximate and the route is subject to change.
Participants should expect self-serve, cup-less water stops and are required to bring their own hydration device. Packet pickup must be completed before the event; bibs are required to access the Start Area and a photo ID or QR code is required to collect a packet. One participant may pick up another pre-registered participant’s packet if they have a copy of that person’s photo ID or QR code.
Additional event rules and logistics include a minimum participant age of 7 years, a request that children under 14 be accompanied by an adult, cup-less service, and a prohibition on alcohol consumption before the event. The race uses wave starts with runners lining up by predicted pace per mile. Prizes are awarded to the top three overall finishers. Entry fees include a finisher t-shirt, a chip-timed bib, and a drink ticket; entries are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-deferrable. An income-based $15 rate is available to those who qualify. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
