James River Scramble (10kish)

The James River Scramble is a trail event of approximately 10k that emphasizes off‑pavement running. The route includes roots, gravel, rough terrain, and low hanging branches; the organizer notes it is not intended for walkers. The course begins on the south side of the river and finishes on the north side in the Dominion Energy Flat Lot. Course distance and layout are approximate and subject to change.

There are two water stops on course, located at miles 1.7 and 4.2. Water stations are self‑serve and cup‑less, so participants must bring their own hydration system. The event uses wave starts; participants line up according to their predicted pace per mile to manage trail volume.

Entry fees follow a tiered pricing schedule, with early and later rates; included with registration are a finisher t-shirt, a chip timed bib, and a drink ticket valid during normal festival hours. Entries are non refundable, non transferable, and non deferrable under all circumstances. An income based $15 rate is offered for those who qualify.

Packet pickup is required before the event. Bib numbers must be worn to access the Start Area and packet pickup requires a photo ID or QR code; a participant may pick up another pre registered runner's packet if they provide that runner's photo ID or QR code. Prizes are awarded to the top three overall finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
