Brecons Fell-Running, Trail and Yoga Camp : overview

The camp is a weekend running and yoga event in the Black Mountains within Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Accommodation is at the Dinas Castle Bunkhouse and the adjoining Dinas Castle Inn B&B in Pengenffordd, Talgarth, Powys LD3 0EP. The bunkhouse sits over 1000 ft above sea level below the Castell Dinas ruins. Options include bunkhouse, B&B twin, B&B double and camping. Prices listed are £310 for the bunkhouse, £340 for a B&B twin and £360 for a B&B double. The event includes cooked breakfasts, two morning yoga sessions and talks from an established outdoor author/activist/adventurer. The organisers offer lifts both ways to points on the A38 or M5 between Plymouth and Bristol for up to five people on a first come first served basis. Nearby train stations include Abergavenny, Builth and Talgarth.

Programme and running

The programme features three guided runs and other activities across the weekend. Run distances and activities include:

  • 12 km circular run up to Waun Fach and back via the Dragon's Back
  • 11 miles from Hay Bluff down the Olchon Valley via Offa's Dyke
  • 6 to 10 miles along the Dragon's Back and parts of the Beacons Way
    Other included items are lunches in Hay on Wye, an opportunity to swim or dip in the River Wye, and talks on navigation and fell-running technique. Some evening meals and certain lunches are not included in the price.

Ability and kit

Participants should be able to run at least 10 km off road on varied terrain. Recommended kit includes suitable fell or trail shoes, weatherproof running gear, spare socks, a head torch, towel and optional yoga mat, bathers and map. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
