Event Details

The MTC Afanc is a 39.7-mile ultra marathon event. It forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and is also Day 5 of the six-day CYMRUN, a multi-day race across Wales.

Route

The route starts at the River Wye Activity Centre in Glasbury and finishes at the Travelodge in Merthyr Tydfil. The entire course follows National Cycle Route 8. There are three checkpoints on the route.

Participant Information

The race is a cup-free event, requiring participants to bring their own reusable cup. Checkpoints provide food and drinks such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola, and water. A mandatory kit list includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, map, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and basic first aid supplies.

Competitors are tracked via a provided device with an SOS function. The event has a participant limit of 40 runners: 20 for the standalone Afanc and 20 for those taking part in the full CYMRUN. A minimum average pace of 4 mph is enforced, with competitors who fall below this speed being withdrawn.
