Winter Sugar Loaf
Winter Sugar Loaf is a fell race scheduled for Saturday 31 October 2026 at The Crown, Pantygelli, near Abergavenny (grid ref SO302179). The course covers 9.6 km with 485 m of ascent (listed also as 6 miles / 1,590 ft).
The route is partially marked. Runners must follow the main tourist path with stone steps up to the summit of Sugar Loaf to limit erosion. Full kit is usually required and participants must carry the full WFRA kit list for the entire race; anyone crossing the finish line without the full kit will be disqualified. October weather can be harsh and carrying the required kit is mandatory.
Parking at the pub is extremely limited to the rear gravel area, so car sharing and cycling are encouraged. Race headquarters sits on national cycle route 42. Abergavenny train station is about 3.5 miles from the venue, mostly along the cycle route. An alternative car park at Deri View in Abergavenny is about 2.4 km from race HQ and can serve as a warm up route.
Facilities at the pub include baguettes on the bar for £6 and full meals by order; the pub also has lodges for overnight stays. Entry fee is £9 and entries are handled via Fabian4. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
