Winter Sugar Loaf

Winter Sugar Loaf is a fell race held on Saturday 31 October 2026 from the venue at The Crown, Pantygelli, near Abergavenny (GR SO302179). The course covers 9.6 km with 485 m of ascent, listed also as about 6 miles and 1,590 ft.

The route is partially marked and runners should not take shortcuts. Competitors must follow the main tourist path (stone steps) up to the summit of Sugar Loaf to limit erosion. The organiser requires runners to carry the full WFRA kit list for the whole race; competitors crossing the finish line without the full kit will be disqualified.

The event notes that October weather can be harsh. Limited parking is available at the venue, so car sharing and cycling are encouraged. Lanes and access to nearby farms and the pub cannot be blocked.

Entry is via Fabian4 and the entry fee is £9. Prizes and discounts will be offered to those who comply with the event requirements; further details are to be confirmed. The race is described as suitable for road runners wanting to try fell racing for the first time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
