Course Overview

The BOWUM (Borderlands of Wales Ultra Marathon) is a 30-mile ultramarathon event taking place on April 4th, 2026. The route is a circular journey through the historic borderlands of Monmouthshire, starting and finishing in Monmouth. It incorporates parts of the Three Castles Walk, Offa’s Dyke Path, and surrounding countryside.

Route Details

The course connects three medieval castles: Skenfrith, Grosmont, and White Castle. The terrain is reported to be 90% trail and 10% road, with an elevation gain of 4,258 feet. Two fully manned aid stations will be positioned along the route, stocked with snacks, fresh fruit, and hot and cold drinks. Dietary requirements can be accommodated if provided during registration. The event does not enforce a time limit, and participants are encouraged to take in the scenery.

Mandatory Kit

Runners must carry the following mandatory kit: appropriate footwear, a one-litre water carrier, a mobile phone, a headlamp or light source, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack.
