The BOWUM (Borderlands of Wales Ultra Marathon) takes place on 4 April 2026 in Monmouth, Monmouthshire. The race is a circular ultra covering 30 miles with an elevation gain of approximately 4,258 ft. Organisers describe the route as mainly off-road, with terrain listed as 90% trail and 10% road.

Route and support

The route incorporates parts of the Three Castles Walk and Offa's Dyke Path and passes the three local castles: Skenfrith, Grosmont, and White Castle. There are three fully manned checkpoints along the course. Checkpoints are stocked with snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks and music, and organisers will accommodate dietary requirements when notified. There are no event time limits.

Entry details and kit

This is the inaugural edition of the BOWUM. Entry includes a race medal, post-race care, and access to the organised checkpoints and race crew. Mandatory kit listed by the organiser includes appropriate footwear, a water carrier (1 litre), a mobile phone, a headlamp or other light source, a foil blanket, a waterproof jacket and a rucksack. Serious Santa trail races serve up rugged, scenic runs in the Black Mountains from Cwmdu Village Hall with Half Marathon, Ten Mile and 14 km options. Expect technical trails, festive vibes and handmade finisher trophies.
