Brecon to Cardiff Xtreme & Taff Xtreme Marathon : event overview

The Brecon to Cardiff Xtreme and the Taff Xtreme Marathon take place on 1 March 2026 with race base and finish at Coleg y Cymoedd, Parc Nantgarw, CF15 7QX. The Xtreme is a linear mountain ultra of about 47.5 miles (75 km) with roughly 2,680 m to 2,800 m of ascent and crosses 11 summits. The Taff Xtreme Marathon covers the second half of the ultra route at 26.2 miles with about 1,300 m of ascent. The Xtreme route is unmarked and requires navigation skills; the marathon joins the ultra route at the Merthyr halfway checkpoint. There are 6 manned checkpoints on the Xtreme and 3 on the marathon, all providing water, energy drinks and light refreshments. The Xtreme offers a halfway indoor aid station at Merthyr College with access to drop bags.

Route, logistics and entry items

Key route features include climbs to Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big, technical descents such as the Roman Road, sections of forestry and the Glamorgan Way, and the final approach through Pontypridd to Coleg y Cymoedd. As a linear event competitors park at the finish and coach transport runs to the starts; coach transport is included in the Xtreme entry and optional for the marathon. Navigation uses a provided GPS trace and an interactive map/GPS file is available. A compulsory kit list must be carried. Stated entry prices are £85 for the B2C Xtreme (includes parking, coach and tracking) and £45 for the Taff Xtreme Marathon (coach optional for £10).
