Route, logistics and facilities

The Xtreme starts in Brecon and passes major high points including Pen y Fan, Cribyn and Fan y Big, then continues over additional ridges and forestry before finishing in Cardiff. The Marathon covers the second half of the Xtreme route, starting at Merthyr and joining the ultra route near the halfway checkpoint.

The course is unmarked in places and navigation is by GPS trace; runners must be self-sufficient and carry compulsory kit as listed by the organiser. There are six manned checkpoints on the Xtreme and three on the Marathon, offering water, drinks and snacks. The event base provides parking, a café, large indoor registration area, toilets, changing rooms and showers.
