Brecon to Cardiff Classic

Nantgarw, United Kingdom • 1 Mar 2026

Event

The Brecon to Cardiff Ultra is a one-way, fully marked 70 km race held on 1 March 2026. The event is organised by Run Walk Crawl and is open to entrants aged 18 and over on the event date. Entry costs £80. The finish location and event base is at Coleg y Cymoedd, Parc Nantgarw, Nantgarw, CF15 7QX. Included with entry are electronic timing, live GPS tracking via Open Tracking, a race buff, checkpoint refreshments, a half way drop bag transfer at the Merthyr checkpoint, a finishers medal for those who complete the course, emergency first aid cover, free event photos and free car parking at the finish.

Route and logistics

The route follows the Taff Trail from Brecon to Nantgarw. The first 30 km are almost exclusively on footpaths and forestry trails; from Merthyr the course follows an off-road cycle path to the finish. The route passes the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal to Talybont-on-Usk, climbs to Torpantau, then descends toward Pontsticill Reservoir, Merthyr (with views of Cefn Coed Viaduct and Cyfarthfa Castle), Aberfan memorial, Pontypridd and Nantgarw. Because the course is linear, competitors park at the finish and are transported by coach to the start. The event base offers parking, a café, a large indoor registration area, toilets, changing rooms and showers. The venue is accessible from the A470 and is one junction off the M4, with local bus and rail links to Cardiff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
