BRADBURY BREAKER
The Breaker is a trail race held at Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal, ME. The course covers 9 miles as two laps of a hilly, technical single-track loop that uses the mountain side of the park trail network. The route includes repeated climbs and sections with rocks and roots common to Maine trails.
The race has a cutoff time of 3 hours, equivalent to a 20 minute per mile pace. The field is limited to 160 runners. There is no wait list, no bib number transfers, and no same day registration. Bib pickup and check in occur on race morning, and race shirts are distributed at bib pickup; registered runners must be present to receive their shirt.
Awards include first choice from the prize table for the overall male and female finishers, and additional prizes awarded by random drawing among decade age group winners. The Breaker is part of the Bradbury Mountain Trail Race Series. Runners who complete four races in the series within the cutoff times receive a Bad Ass Hoodie, and the overall male and female series champions receive a handcrafted Adirondack chair in addition to other series awards.
Trail Monster Running organizes the race as a nonprofit. Organizers are unpaid volunteers. Proceeds support race equipment and local outdoor and trail related nonprofits, and leftover shirts or hoodies are donated to local homeless shelters.
