Back Cove Backyard Ultra

Back Cove Backyard Ultra

Back Cove Backyard Ultra is scheduled for July 11, 2026 in Portland, Maine and is organized by The Grind Run Company. The event uses the backyard ultra format in which participants run one loop each hour until a single runner remains.

The course follows the Back Cove Trail, described as a 3.5 mile non-technical, mostly flat gravel loop with a short paved bridge crossing along a tidal estuary basin. A 0.60 mile add on on the Bayside Trail at the start and finish brings each circuit to the standard backyard ultra distance of about 4.16 miles. Parking is free in the public lot adjacent to the start and finish on a first come first served basis.

There are two aid locations. An unstaffed aid station in Payson Park will offer water, basic first aid supplies, and packaged snacks. A staffed aid station at the start and finish will provide water, electrolytes, packaged and prepared snacks, and basic first aid supplies. Event personnel will be present at the start and finish for the duration of the event; participants may leave drop bags and place a small tent or canopy adjacent to that area. Porta potties are available in Payson Park and at the start and finish.

This is described as a hyper local event with modest entry pricing. Refunds are not issued except for extraordinary circumstances at the organizers discretion, and a pregnancy deferral is offered for use the following year. Current registration availability is listed as sold out. Volunteers support event operations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
