Portland, Maine hosts the Back Cove Backyard Ultra, Portland’s only backyard ultra on the iconic Back Cove Trail. The course is a 3.5-mile, mostly flat gravel loop along a tidal estuary with a short paved bridge, offering waterfront views. Runners repeat an hourly 4.167-mile loop, with a 0.60-mile Bayside Trail add-on at the start/finish to reach the standard distance.

Two aid stations exist: a staffed start/finish with water, electrolytes, snacks and basic first aid, plus an unstaffed station in Payson Park. Free parking; volunteers handle logistics and drop bags.
