Bradbury Bruiser
The Bradbury Bruiser is a trail race held at Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal, Maine (528 Hallowell Rd). It is the third race in the Bradbury Mountain Trail Race Series and is organized by Trail Monster Running, a nonprofit run by unpaid volunteers.
The course is a twisting, turning loop of roughly 12 mile single-track trails on the park's East Side trail system. Runners will encounter rocks, roots, bumps, and hills. The final two miles follow the "O-Trail," a section noted for its sustained technical terrain.
The race has a cutoff of 3 hours 36 minutes (18-minute mile pace). Each race in the series is capped at 160 runners; there is no wait list, no bib transfers, and no same day registration. The cap is set in part because parking at the park is limited and to help ensure participant safety and enjoyment.
Race morning includes bib pickup and check-in, and race shirts for registered runners are distributed at bib pickup; runners must be present to receive their shirt. The first overall male and female finishers select first choice from the prize table. Additional prizes are awarded by random drawings among decade age group winners.
Runners who complete four races in the series within the cutoff times earn a Bad Ass Hoodie. Overall series male and female champions receive a handcrafted Adirondack chair from Prospect Mountain Furniture in addition to their hoodie and race prizes.
Trail Monster Running directs proceeds to race equipment and local outdoor and trail-related nonprofits, including Royal River Conservation Trust. Any leftover shirts or hoodies are donated to local homeless shelters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
