BRADBURY BRUISER - Pownal, ME
The Bradbury Bruiser is a single-loop trail race held on the East Side trail system at Bradbury Mountain. The course is about 12-mile long and follows mostly single-track trails with rocks, roots, bumps, and hills. The final two miles follow the "O-Trail," a section the event notes as where the race earns its name.
The race has a cutoff time of 3 hours 36 minutes, equivalent to an 18-minute mile pace. Entry for this event is limited to 160 runners; there is no wait list, no bib transfers, and no same-day registration.
T-shirts for registered runners are distributed at bib pickup, and runners must be present to receive a shirt. Awards include first choice from the prize table for the top three overall male and female finishers, plus additional prizes awarded by random drawing among decade age group winners. Many prizes are donated by sponsors such as Marathon Sports, Wicked Joe Organic Coffee, Squirrel’s Nut Butter, Lamey Wellehan Shoes, and Prospect Mountain Furniture.
The Bruiser is the third race in the Bradbury Mountain Trail Race Series. Runners who complete four series races within the cutoff times receive a Bad Ass Hoodie, and the overall male and female series champions receive a handcrafted Adirondack chair in addition to other prizes.
Trail Monster Running organizes the event as a nonprofit with unpaid volunteers. Proceeds support race equipment and local outdoor and trail-related nonprofits, and leftover shirts or hoodies are donated to local homeless shelters. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
