Firebird Trail Races
Firebird Trail Races in Windham, ME offers three distance options on rugged, mostly single track trails through Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Community Forest. The event uses a roughly 10 mile loop as the core element of the course; races start and finish in Lowell Preserve at the Windham Fire Station.
Distances include:
- 13M one 10 mile loop plus a 5k loop in East Windham Conservation Area
- Marathon two laps of the 13M course
- 50K three 10 mile loops in Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Community Forest
The 10 mile loop is technical, with many rocks and roots on single track trails. Course markings include high visibility pin flags, directional arrows, and signs labeled LEFT RIGHT and WRONG WAY; confidence pin flags indicate when runners are on course.
There are two aid stations: one at the start/finish and one at the five mile turnaround. Both stations provide water, soda, chips, candy, and LMNT electrolyte mix, and volunteers will staff them. Drop bags may be left at either or both aid stations.
The event is organized locally and donates a portion of proceeds to trail organizations. Participants are asked to make a separate donation of at least $20 within the organizer’s stated donation window and to provide proof to confirm entry. No refunds are issued; residual profits are donated to a local land trust. A pregnancy deferral is available for use in a subsequent year.
