Firebird Trail Races

Firebird Trail Races take place in Windham, ME, with multiple distance options centered on a technical 10 mile loop through Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Community Forest. The event describes rocky, rooty single-track trails and a mix of terrain that requires careful footing. Start and finish are located in Lowell Preserve at the Windham Fire Station.

Distances

  • 13M: one 10 mile loop plus a 5k in East Windham Conservation Area
  • Marathon: two laps of the 13M course
  • 50K: three 10 mile loops in Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Forest

There are two aid stations: one at the start/finish and one at the approximately 5 mile turnaround. Both stations provide water, soda, chips, candy, and LMNT electrolyte mix. Volunteers staff the stations and runners may leave drop bags at either location.

The course will be marked with high visibility pin flags, directional arrows, and LEFT, RIGHT, and WRONG WAY signs. Confidence pin flags will indicate when runners are on course.

Each participant receives a wood carved Firebird medal and may purchase additional race merchandise. Top non-binary, male, and female finishers in each distance receive awards. The 50K has an overall cut-off of nine hours. Registration requires proof of a participant donation of at least $20 made between 8.25.2025 and 8.21.2026; proof must be submitted by 8.21.2026. This event does not issue refunds. Runners may drop to a shorter distance before the start or during the event but mid-race drop-downs forfeit eligibility for lower-distance awards. A pregnancy deferral option is offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
