Box Hill Vertical KM
The Box Hill Vertical KM is a guided trail run located in the Surrey Hills near Dorking. This event is designed to cover a significant amount of elevation in a relatively short distance, featuring a route that accumulates approximately 1000m of gain. The total distance for the run is 12.5 miles.
The course traverses a variety of terrains, including woodland, heathland, and open fields. Participants will encounter diverse trail conditions, ranging from technical sections to steep climbs that may require scrambling. The route is specifically designed as a continuous journey and does not utilize hill repetitions to achieve the elevation goal.
This is a group-led experience rather than a competitive race. The group moves at a steady, collective pace, with pauses at the summits of major climbs. Participants are expected to have a fitness level that allows them to maintain an average trail pace of 10 min/miles (6 min/km) for prolonged periods. A qualified mountain leader and coach provides navigation and guidance throughout the event.
The meeting point is the Stepping Stones Car Park at Box Hill. The location is accessible by car and is situated near a train station, reachable by a short run or taxi. Participants have the opportunity to test specific trail running footwear during the event, and non-alcoholic refreshments are provided at the conclusion of the run.
