Event details

The Bogong to Hotham Mountain Ultra is scheduled for Sat 17th Jan 2026. Distances offered are:

  • 29 km
  • 35 km
  • 64 km

The race starts at Mountain Creek Campground and finishes at the Mt Hotham summit. The route climbs Mt Bogong, descends T-Spur to the Big River, then climbs Duane’s Spur to the Bogong High Plains. Runners pass the main aid station at Langford Gap, cross the high plains, drop to the Cobungra River, and climb Swindler’s Spur to the finish.

Entry, safety and logistics

Registration is open. The event requires mandatory equipment and all runners must download and configure a Tracker App. Entry assessment for the 64 km and 35 km considers trail experience, endurance and pace/speed; the 29 km has lower entry requirements but still requires trail experience and mandatory gear.

There is limited parking at Mountain Creek Campground and no bus to the start. Organised transport (ticket required) is available for selected legs: return options for 35 km runners from Langford Gap and for 64 km and 29 km runners from Mt Hotham to Mt Beauty, and transfers for some 29 km and 35 km movements. Nearby towns for accommodation include Tawonga, Tawonga South and Mt Beauty (drive times listed as 10-25 minutes). Mountain Creek Picnic Area has very limited camping, a pit toilet and creek water.

Trailsplus donates $1 per participant to Canteen; cumulative donations have surpassed $80,000. In 2025 there were 78 competitors and a $100 donation was made. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
