BMF Hounslow Training - 17 km Course

This training session follows the Hounslow 17 km course in the Blue Mountains National Park, starting and finishing on Twin Falls Road at Blackheath. The route runs along cliff-top tracks to Govetts Leap and Evans Lookout, includes a long descent via stairs into the Grand Canyon, a loop to Neates Glen, and returns by the same lookouts to the start. Optional extra distance is available during the session.

The course includes over 900 m of elevation gain and loss. The session is delivered by Blue Mountains Fitness under an NPWS ECO PASS licence and is insured for training inside the National Park. It is the same 17 km section that forms the first part of the longer Marathon course.

Participants are grouped into three pace groups named MIGHTY TURTLES, a medium paced group, and HARES. Trainers do not leave runners or walkers behind and offer multiple pace and distance options. The session is used as race day preparation; participants are expected to carry mandatory Hounslow Classic gear and enough food and fluids for up to about five hours on foot. Minimum age for this training run is 14. An information sheet with meeting points and a course map is provided to participants before the session.

Fees are stated for the session, with a reduced price for ages 14 to 17. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
