BMF UTA Stair Training / Taper Run is a guided training run in Katoomba, NSW, held two weeks before Ultra Trail Australia. The session focuses on stair training and course familiarisation for participants preparing for UTA race distances. Organisers from Blue Mountains Fitness, together with The Body Mechanic, align the run with STREEK.RUNUTA base and event-specific training plans and with week 14 of a 16-week Locker Room race plan. The organisers hold a National Parks and Wildlife Service ECO PASS licence and insurance to operate within the National Park.
Course, groups and practical details
The route will include the UTA11 course at minimum and may add additional UTA trails to reach up to 11–24 km. The exact route may change if National Parks or council closures, landslides, floods or other unforeseen circumstances occur. There are three pace groups: TURTLES, a mid paced group and SPEEDY HARES; a walker group may be added if required. Participants must carry the UTA22 mandatory gear and bring sufficient fuel and hydration for the planned distance. Minimum age is 12. Fees listed for the event are $65 for ages 16 and over and $50 for ages 11–15. Meeting location is Violet Street opposite Scenic World, Katoomba.
