BMF UTA Training run in the Blue Mountains

This is a guided long training run on Ultra Trail Australia course sections around Katoomba and Wentworth Falls. The route uses the QV to QV loop with Kedumba, Leura Creek, Jamison Creek, the Helipad, Sewer Plant, Federal Pass, Leura Forest, Fern Bower, Leura Cascades, The Fairmont, Wentworth Falls, Hordern Road and Kings Tableland Road. There is an option to bail out at Gordon Falls.

  • 20 km option finishing at Gordon Falls
  • 34 km base course QV to QV Kedumba Loop
  • 45 km+ option with extra kilometres for faster groups

The session is aligned with STREEK.RUN UTA base and specific race training plans and finishes Week 13 of a 16 week Locker Room race plan. Trainers hold a National Parks and Wildlife Service ECO PASS licence and appropriate insurance for training within the park. Pace groups are organised, typically three groups named Mighty Turtles, a mid paced group and Speedy Hares, with the ability to change groups during the run. Participants are expected to carry UTA50/100/Miler mandatory gear and sufficient food and hydration for around seven hours on feet. The minimum age for participation is 16. Trail races of 11 km and 16 km start and finish at the Fairmont Resort in Wentworth Falls, running on single trails and stairs through Blue Mountains National Park with staffed aid stations and a two hour midcourse cut off.

Join a guided trail training run in Blue Mountains National Park on March 1, 2026, practicing the steep early sections of the Ultra Trail Australia Miler. Pick 18 km or 25 km routes with pace groups, water support and course guidance.

A 45 km trail marathon across the Blue Mountains from near Katoomba to the Jenolan Caves, held annually since 1984. The not for profit event donates profits to the Blue Mountains Rural Fire Service and attracts over 1,100 finishers.
