Event overview
This is a training run organised by Blue Mountains Fitness on sections of the Ultra Trail Australia (UTA) and Hounslow Classic courses in Blue Mountains National Park, NSW. The session uses Perry's Lookdown campground and Perry's Lookdown car park as the meeting area and follows parts of the UTA 100-mile route. The training is part of the STREEK.RUN 16-week UTA Miler Race Program (week 5). The activity is licensed by National Parks and Wildlife (NPWS ECO PASS) and is insured for training within the park.
Course, distances and logistics
The route starts at Perry's Lookdown Aid Station CP2 (16.7 km into the 100-mile course), descends into the Grose Valley, climbs Lockleys Pylon, passes Pinnacles Aid Station (optional turn around) and reaches Fortress Ridge Aid Station CP3 (27.5 km into the 100-mile course). The terrain includes steep sections, stairs and single-track trails.
Distances:
- 25 km with about 2100 m elevation gain/loss
- 18 km optional turn around with about 1600 m elevation gain/loss
Additional details: three pace groups will operate (MIGHTY TURTLES, a medium group, and HARES). Participants must bring UTA mandatory gear. A water stash will be available at the Pinnacles car park and the organisers will supply 2 x 600 ml bottles at the Pinnacles aid station for the return. Minimum age is 16.
