BMF UTA Training Run
The BMF UTA Training Run is a guided training session held in the Blue Mountains National Park, specifically starting from Queen Victoria Hospital. Organized by Blue Mountains Fitness, this event is designed to familiarize participants with the Ultra Trail Australia course. The route covers significant sections of the UTA50 and UTA100 courses, including Kedumba, Fern Bower, and the stairs around Wentworth Falls.
The run offers several distance options to accommodate different training goals:
- 20 km
- 34 km
- 43 km
- 45+ km
Participants are organized into three distinct pace groups to ensure a cohesive experience: the Speedy Hares, a Mid Paced group, and the Mighty Turtles. The course utilizes a Queen Victoria Hospital to Queen Victoria Hospital loop for the longer distances, while those choosing the 20 km option finish at Gordon Falls. The route incorporates technical terrain such as the Federal Pass, Leura Forest, and the Leura Stairs.
This training session functions as a race day preparation run. Participants are required to carry the mandatory gear specified for the UTA50 and UTA100 events. While limited water drops are provided along the route, runners must carry a minimum of 2 liters of hydration from the start. The minimum age for participation is 16 years. Experienced trainers lead the groups, providing information on race strategy, navigation, and nutrition throughout the 5 to 7 hour duration on the trails.
