BMF UTA Training Run
The BMF UTA Training Run is a guided long-distance session held in the Blue Mountains, approximately three weeks before the Ultra Trail Australia (UTA) events. Based in Katoomba and Wentworth Falls, this training run focuses on course familiarity and technical preparation for the UTA50, UTA100, and UTA Miler distances. The session covers various sections of the official race routes, including Kedumba, Fern Bower, and the stairs around Leura and Wentworth Falls.
Participants can choose from several distance options depending on their training goals:
- 20 km (Includes a portion of the UTA22 course)
- 34 km (The standard QV-Kedumba Loop)
- 45+ km (Extended route for faster pace groups)
The run is organized into three distinct pace groups designated as the Mighty Turtles, a mid-paced group, and the Speedy Hares. Participants have the flexibility to swap between groups during the session to match their current fitness level. The total time on feet is expected to range between 6 and 7.5 hours.
Safety and support are provided throughout the event. Managed by licensed NPWS ECO PASS trainers, the session includes guidance on race strategy, gear, and nutrition. A safety officer is stationed to assist participants, and transport is arranged for those opting for the 20 km bailout point at Gordon Falls. All participants are required to carry the mandatory gear specified for the UTA50, UTA100, or Miler events. The minimum age for participation is 16.
