BMF UTA Training long run in the Blue Mountains
This is a guided long training run around Katoomba that follows significant sections of the Ultra Trail Australia courses. The main route is a QV to QV loop via Kedumba, and the course route includes Kedumba, Leura Creek, Jamison Creek, the Helipad, the Sewer Plant, Federal Pass, Leura Forest, Fern Bower, Leura Cascades, The Fairmont, Wentworth Falls, Hordern Road and Kings Tableland Road. Organisers may alter the route if there are course changes, park closures, landslides, floods or other unforeseen circumstances.
The training aligns with STREEK.RUN UTA base and event specific training plans and concludes Week 13 of a 16 week race plan for Ultra Trail Australia. Trainers hold an NPWS ECO PASS licence and the activity is insured for training inside the National Park. Trainers will discuss race preparation topics such as gear, nutrition, pacing, aid stations and race strategy during the run.
There are multiple pace groups named Mighty Turtles, Mid Paced and Speedy Hares. A bail out point at Gordon Falls Park is available around 20 km and transport is provided from that location back to Queen Victoria Hospital. Participants should bring mandatory UTA race gear and fuel for around seven hours on feet. Minimum age is 16. Fees are listed for the full course and the 20 km option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
