The Race

This is a Fell Runners Association (FRA) Category 'AM' race. The route covers a distance of 13K with 825m of ascent. It is designated as an English Fell Champs Race for 2026 and will follow the "classic" route.

Route & Requirements

The race starts at the fell gate in Mungrisdale. The course features three checkpoints: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra Summit, and Souther Fell. Route marshals will be posted in several locations, including the first climb onto the east shoulder of Bowscale Fell and at two 'escape routes'.

Navigation skills and competent mountain-craft are required. Participants must carry the full FRA mandatory kit. The event is not suitable for beginners or those unfamiliar with the potential dangers of the high fells.

Use of GPS devices is not permitted. Competitors are strongly advised to have their own Ordnance Survey race map available, and entry will be denied without one.

Registration, number collection, and kit check will take place at Low Beckside Farm. The registration area is approximately a 10-minute walk from the race start. All parking for the event is at Low Beckside Farm. Participants are asked not to park elsewhere in the village. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
