Event Details

The Whinlatter Moon Runner is a 10k head torch trail race taking place at night within Whinlatter Forest Park in Cumbria. Registration occurs in Cafe Ambio.

Route and Terrain

The route is fully waymarked and described as a very hilly course on a mixture of hard-packed gravel tracks, single twisting dirt tracks, and occasional muddy bridleway, all contained within the forest.

Participant Information

The minimum age to participate is 14. The event organizer provides medical support throughout the race. Participants must bring their own head torch. Car parking is available for approximately 200 vehicles, and car sharing is encouraged.

Included with Entry

Entry includes a branded event memento, free downloadable event pictures, a packet of wildflower seeds, and freebies from sponsors Chia Charge and Mountain Fuel Sports Nutrition. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers. Refreshments are available from a café during the event. The organizer notes they do not use disposable plastic cups. Classic Lake District fell run from New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, a sharp 3.5 mile course with 2100 ft of climbing over rough rock and moor. Day entries welcome; bring map, compass and waterproofs for this high country test.

A 10 km cross country race at Cockermouth School on 4 April 2026 featuring road, woodland and field sections, full chip timing, limited parking and an Easter egg for every finisher.

An early season evening fell race from Rothay Park to Loughrigg summit and back, 6.4 km with 330 m ascent over a flagged out and back route. The event is full and new entries are placed on a waiting list.

Experience the landscape of the Lake District with trail races of 23 km and 53 km starting from Keswick. These chip timed events include themed medals and routes passing Derwent Water and Scafell Pike.
