The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026
The Maverick Lakes X-Trail takes place on 19 September 2026 at Grasmere Lakeland Sports & Shows, Ambleside (LA22 9SL). The event offers five off-road route options on Lake District trails with varied, technical terrain, steep rocky climbs and technical descents. The event is not dog-friendly.
Distances
- 50k Ultra: 52 km, +2858 m
- Marathon: 43 km, +2367 m
- Half Marathon: 25 km, +1131 m
- Middle: 14 km, +617 m
- Short: 9 km, +386 m
The route starts in Grasmere and climbs toward Easdale Tarn and Stickle Tarn, passing features overlooked by Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle. Runners follow sections of the Cumbria Way toward Greater Langdale, run toward Loughrigg Tarn through ancient woodlands, then include a final climb to Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe before a technical descent back to the venue.
Outpost and cut-off information: there are no outposts on the Middle and Short routes. The Half Marathon has two outposts (around 10.5 km and 19.5 km), the Marathon three outposts (around 10.5 km, 19.5 km and 27 km) and the 50k Ultra four outposts (around 10.5 km, 19.5 km, 27 km and 37 km). Cut-off points apply to the Marathon and 50k Ultra and are strictly enforced for safety. Outposts provide snacks, gels and electrolyte drink; organizers aim for cup-free outposts so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle.
Additional event details include free parking, fully marked and timed courses, GPS route tracking on the longest routes, event photography and a finishers medal. The event donates £1 from every entry to Fix the Fells. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
