Blacksheep 3 and 6 Hour Challenge
The Blacksheep Challenge takes place in Masham, situated on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales. This event is hosted by It's Grim Up North Running and utilizes a loop-based format where participants choose between two time limits:
- 3 Hour Challenge
- 6 Hour Challenge
The course consists of a loop approximately 3.3 to 3.5 miles in length. Participants may complete as many laps as they wish within their chosen time frame. The route features a mix of terrain, including trail, grass, woodland, and road sections. While the elevation is generally flat, the course includes one steady climb and several stiles.
The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association. The course is marshaled and signed, and downloadable GPX files are provided for navigation. Feed and drink stations are located every 3 miles, typically at the start and finish area of each loop. These stations are cup-less, so runners must carry their own reusable bottles or cups.
Facilities include toilets at the town market square. Parking is available on-site in a field for a five-pound fee, with proceeds benefiting local charitable causes. All finishers receive a bespoke medal along with a beer and a sausage sandwich, with vegetarian and alcohol-free options provided. Large over-ear headphones are not permitted for safety reasons, though bone-conducting or single in-ear pieces are allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
