The Bowes Loop Half (Pennine Way)
The event is a trail half marathon that uses a loop of the Pennine Way starting and finishing in Bowes. Race registration and headquarters are at Bowes & Gilmonby Village Hall in Bowes. Entrants pass Bowes Castle on the way to the start.
The route follows the Pennine Way permanent route markers. It goes over God's Bridge, across Bowes Moor towards Blackton Reservoir, loops past Goldsborough Carr, crosses Deepdale Beck and returns to Bowes. The route is exposed in places and crosses dirt tracks and fields, with a stream crossing, tree roots, boggy sections and a mile long road finish.
Facilities at race headquarters include toilets and a bag drop. Water and snacks are provided at one checkpoint on route and at the finish. No single use water bottles or disposable cups will be provided; participants should bring a reusable bottle for top ups from water butts.
A minimum kit list is required and spot checks may be performed. Required items include a packable waterproof jacket and trousers, a bivvy bag, a marked map, a fully charged mobile with the organiser contact, hat, gloves and at least 500 ml of water. A whistle and compass are recommended.
Parking at the village hall is limited. The event has a minimum age of 17 or older and an entry fee of £24. Entrants are asked not to deviate from the marked route across Bowes Moor. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
