The Bowes Loop Half (Pennine trail)

This event is a trail half marathon on the Pennine Way that starts and finishes in Bowes. The route follows the Pennine Way permanent markers, passes Bowes Castle and God's Bridge, crosses Bowes Moor toward Blackton Reservoir, loops past Goldsborough Carr and returns over Deepdale Beck to Bowes. The course includes a final section of about one mile on road.

Race headquarters and registration are at Bowes & Gilmonby Village Hall. Toilets are available at the village hall and limited parking is provided there. A bag-drop facility is available for clearly marked items. The entry minimum age is 17 and the entry fee is £24.00. Included in each entry are first aid provision, a race memento, event photos, on-route and finish water and snacks, and bag-drop at headquarters.

Terrain is primarily dirt tracks and fields with a stream crossing, tree roots and boggy sections. Trail shoes or hybrid shoes are suggested because of the mix of trail and road surfaces. Organisers require a minimum kit that includes a packable waterproof jacket and trousers, bivvy bag, a marked map, a fully charged mobile with the organisers contact details, hat, gloves and at least 500 ml of water. A whistle and compass are recommended and spot kit checks will be performed. The event will not provide disposable water bottles or cups so participants should use reusable containers. Runners must follow the marked route at all times, especially where the Pennine Way crosses former RAF land. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
